About Mount Pleasant
Mt. Pleasant and its villages of Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville as well as the hamlets of Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, Thornwood and Valhalla is located about 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan in Central Westchester. Metro North Railroad with stations in Pleasantville, Hawthorne and Valhalla offers regular service to Grand Central Terminal.
Visitors are increasingly drawn to Pleasantville with its growing list of restaurants, shops & boutiques. Pleasantville has been described as Westchester's "Front Porch" as its citizens enjoy their strolls along its sidewalks fronting graceful colonials and Victorian homes. The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville is a big draw for movie lovers. The Westchester campus of Pace University is located in Pleasantville and offers residents of all ages opportunities for recreation. The Graham Hills Mountain Bike Trail, in Pleasantville, offers cyclists a day of fresh air in a wooded and natural environment of the beautiful 431-acre park. The Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow is an historic site that vividly interprets aspects of the history of colonial New York, offering tours of the grounds and a site for picnicking that overlooks the Millpond.
The Town is essentially a residential area consisting of single-family homes, apartments and estates. Most residents work throughout the County or commute to New York City. Industrial development in the Town includes several large office parks, New York Life Insurance Company, International Business Machines Corp. (I.B.M.), PepsiCo, Inc. Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. Estate holdings of the Rockefeller family are also situated in the Town.
There are two major medical facilities, the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla and Phelps Hospital in Sleepy Hollow. The New York Medical College is located at the Westchester Medical Center and Pace University's Pleasantville campus is located on Bedford Road.
